DIFFERENT RADIO INDUSTRIES
NATIONAL COMMERCIAL
NATIONAL COMMERCIAL radio are all the biggest radio stations which are broadcasted national wide. examples of these in the UK would be radio stations such as Capital Radio, Absolute radio. the main ethos and purpose of a national commercial is to get a big audience and to generate money this is done through advertising as being their main source of income/funding the typical content of a national commercial is to play mainstream popular content furthermore music which is trending allowing tens of millions of people who are nationwide to tune and listen to the music through radio.
PUBLIC RADIO
Public broadcasting involves radio, television and other electronic media outlets whose primary mission is to provide public service examples of a public radio station is BBC radio, BBC RADIO 1, BBC RADIO 4 the objective and purpose of a public radio station are to Inform educate and entertain. the main source of funding for all p[public radio stations are through tv licenses which everyone has a right and duty to pay this allows the public radio to play speeches documentaries and music which is trending. Around a 34million plus people listen to public radio on a daily basis.
REGIONAL RADIO
Regional Stations in different areas form the middle tier of broadcasting. They originate programmes in the regional languages and dialects. examples of regional radio stations are Hallam FM, Time FM the main purpose for regional radio stations is to express their own context and reality and provide an outlet for local voices and communities to be heard. furthermore, regional radio stations highly depend on advertising for local businesses to fund themselves this means regional radio is mainly listened to by local people and small audiences.
COMMUNITY RADIO
Community radio stations are usually at a short range that caters information for the needs of people living in a local area. examples of a community radio station are Bradford community radio which is based for the people living in Bradford furthermore Awaz Fm is for the people living in Glasgow. community radio stations purpose is to provide a radio channel which is for the diverse population in the area furthermore it aims at different age groups. community radio stations advertise to allow them to generate funding however sometimes they can be non-profit as their reach is only to its local people.
INTERNET RADIO
Internet radio is a type of radio which is broadcasted through the use of the internet this is most commonly known as Streaming in the modern-day .examples of this type of radio/streaming ways is , radio UK. the main purpose for internet radio stations is to allow people to listen to the radio at any time furthermore it allows people across the world to listen to that specific radio station that they may like this means that they can generate income through sponsors and can advertise for big companies furthermore internet radio allows there to be a range of different genres and types of music to be played. allowing people across the world to listen.
NON-PROFIT RADIO
A non-profit radio station is a radio station or television station that does not accept on-air advertisements. examples of a non-profit radio station are CSR which is by the university of kent the purpose of a non-profit radio station is to provide information and entertainment for the audience this means they do not charge for anything or pay to have advertisements however do generate money through events they may hold allowing the small local listeners to just enjoy and listen to the radio which they may relate to and enjoy.
